(b. h.; אחה; cmp. אָב) brother, kinsman; fellow, equal, fellow-believer Meg.11a (play on ăhashverosh, Ahasverus) אָ̇חִ̇יו ש̇ל ר̇אש̇וכ׳ a brother (in cruelty) to the chief tyrant (Nebucadn.); a. fr.Pl. אַחִים, אַחִין. Gen. R. s. 89, beg. (play on āḥu, Gen. 41:2) in years of plenty הבריות נעשו א׳וכ׳ people are brotherly to each other. Ib. s. 99 אחים דפחתאוכ׳ brothers to the degraded woman (Dinah), … but not to Joseph; a. fr.Cant. R. to VIII, 1 שני אחים brother and sister.
